Some Letters From A Couple Years Ago

                                       THANKS  Q !!!!

This is a special thank you to  Q. During the reunion in June I asked Q
if he could help me find my A - Gunner who lived in Portland in ' 69. I haven't
talked to Smitty since I left Nam in June 70. Three weeks ago I gave Q an old
address I had. Last night Q called with Smitty's phone number. I called him &
talked to him for about an hour. He doesn't have a computer yet but if he can
find one he can afford he will have soon. Thanks again  Q .
YOUR A HELL OF A GUY!!!!

I have been uplifted from your web sites. My favorite of course, is Delta15.
There were days I needed some encouragement and visiting your sites put smiles on my face too...Some pages make me cry,:(  but I needed that also.
I would like to be with you one evening. walking the beach at night.(((Q)))   Maybe someday you will make it to New York again. :))
Even if you don't, I am still very happy I know you!  Kisses to Q!!!  Diana

Q:
dunno your story or why you chose to rise to such greatness but I'll thank you anyway for all that's worth. I saw some serious healing last week. Don't get into that huggy kissy shit myself but you deserve a hug or a salute for helping to make it happen. Trouble is, knowing you, you'd snap a fukkin picture and tomorrow somebody surfing in Kosevo would be downloading it.Thanks anyway for helping my bros so much.

The pictures were great! You worked your ass off!
Although we were only there on Sunday, it seemed like everybody was having a great weekend.
It was really nice to see how happy Desi was.
Thanks Q.

Hello Q,
My name is Joe Perry.  I'm a USMC Master Sergeant with 19 years in the
corps.  I just want to let you know that I appreciate and respect the fine
work you've done on your website.  I happened across it yesterday while
surfing Marine sites.  I stopped surfing at delta15.  For nearly five hours
(1000-1500) I was glued to the monitor.  Thoughts of delta15 continued to
occur to me the rest of the evening. This morning I woke up at 0500 thinking
of delta15 and thankful for how fortunate I am. Fortunate for my many
freedoms and luxuries that are too often taken for granted.  You have
refreshed my appreciation for this good life.  I'm mentioning your site to
several Marines and friends.  It had a very positive impact on me.  Thank
you and Semper Fi.

Dear Q,
I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate everything you've done
for the Delta 1/5 guys.  Having this connection to the brothers has made an
enormous difference in Don's life.  Memorial Day is always hard, but I felt
that this year it was easier because Don now has so many people to talk to
who understand.  I think he also sees himself in some of the other guys and
can feel that he is a support to them as well.  I really can't thank you
enough for everything you've done and continue to do for these guys and
those of us that love them.  We can't wait for the reunion in July to meet
so many of these wonderful people you've allowed to find each other.
Thanks is not enough, but there are no words to say what I feel.
Don Myers' wife,
Peggy

I am amazed . Let it be known I do not amaze easily. But Q has amazed me. This guy goes beyond anything I have ever seen. He built us a website that borders on a shrine. He has brought us together and I truly thought I would not see some of you till I go were ever you go when you leave this place. Now he is on a mission to find a gravesite. Can't wait till the reunion to meet him and all the Marines that came after us.

Q
I would also like to take this time to thank you.  You have changed my life for the better.  When this website started one year ago I had already made contact with Jose Cruz and Desi Fajardo. I had already gotten more then I had prayed for.  I just wanted to find one Marine from Delta that remembered me for I was there a short time. And that was Desi.  I remember I could not stop crying as I was telling Paula how important that was. And then the website started.  The love, friendship and brotherhood here was overwhelming.  Also I have now found three other Marines that were there the day I was wounded and participated in my rescue.  I now have four that were there.  Desi Fajardo, Ernie Fournier, Bruce Williamson and Lefty. I once again just like back in 68 feel like the luckiest guy that ever lived. All on this website are very important to my life now.  And I thank each and everyone of you. Its so very hard to explain how I feel but I know that all of you understand because you feel the same way.  Well I am rambling on now so I better go.  A big thank you to Q and all the rest.  I love all you guys.  Great letter this morning Bruce I'm with you 100%.

Q,   I want to thank you very much for providing the tool that has become
very instrumental in filling gaps in a persons memory, of people I served
with and the answers to some of the questions that I have lived with for over
32 years.               I really never discussed the war with anyone,
including my wife Char,of 31 years, whom I love very much.  You really can't
explain something like that, the average persons mind cannot fully understand
or relate, therefore I chose to avoid conversations. Unless I was over
hearing coments that were negative, at that point I would let them know "Yes,
I was, and in my heart, I am still a marine from the Vietnam era, I served
with the most patriotic men I will probably ever know, many of whom died for
their country and many men I will wonder about for the rest of my life, faces
that don't have names, other than nicknames, they are and were my friends,
and I think about them often, I pray they are well".

Q, again I say thanks to you, after talking to Bruce Williamson, Don
Meier, and Desi, my heart was so filled with joy that they are alive, and
well, I broke down in tears of joy,
                                            thank you very much,  Ernie

Hi Q
Just wanted to say thank you for your help.  It was nice talking to you. Once again you have improved our lives.  There are not enough words to explain what you have done for us.  And how much you mean to us  You are a life saver. We will be indebted to you forever.  I am looking forward to shaking your hand.

Q,
I cant even begin to say how much I appreciate both your site and the help you are giving me.  Already I have hear from four people and your site is giving me an chance to see things my father would never be able to describe.  Thank you for all of your work and I'll keep you posted on whatever I find out.

Brothers,
A new month , full of unknowns (as yet) but the promise of great expectations to be fulfilled.
Today April 1st 1945 our predecessors, USMC brothers landed on Okinawa. To greet them were 105,000 Japanese defenders. It took 90 days to secure the Island...Makes me think sometimes the hell those Marines fought through to victory........
Horse, Thank you for Honoring your brothers of Delta 1/5 at the spring Pow Wow this weekend in South Dakota. I too burned sage and lifted my eyes to heaven in prayers of praise, thanks, and remembrance for all of the brothers who paid the ultimate price. Also for Roger Lee Gertson's family and his brothers of Delta 1/5.
I continue, with gratitude, amazement, and pride to watch the brothers of Delta coming together and the joy, healing, and closure that is being produced by the selfless development of this Web site by our brother "Q"...........I hold him in the highest esteem, and thank God for putting it into his heart to undertake this powerful project to accomplish what nothing before has been able to do. He has given us the hope of joy, peace, and love of warriors who cherish these gifts in a way that most men, who have led protected lives from the horrors of war, cannot ever perceive. So if you feel sometimes that you are not like ordinary men...........well it is true, you are not, you my brothers, are EXTRAORDINARY men. I concur with Donny Meier when he said " I once walked with Kings" and I am blessed with the opportunity to once again walk with those Kings.

"Q" , ...per the CD, nothing but a thing of beauty. Your packet was mucho
appreciato, das was sehr gut, mein herr. The pocket CD will allow me to share
your masterpiece with others and hopefully reach out to other 'grunts' and see
first hand,
that once a marine, (or should that be a Delta 1/5/1) always a Delta, marine.
Your web-site has brought together many who shared a point in time that was
based on friendship, esprit de corps, semper fi, and just plain 'ole
brotherhood. Our normalcy of youth, growing up, developing careers, and just
being teenagers and/or young adults was radically transformed by events beyond
our control, ...as it has been so aptly put by so many, ...War is hell, and the
death, scars, and acceleration of youth into adulthood has transformed us all
(for the good or bad). Chow for now, again, you are the webmeister my good
friend.

Wednesday, January 17, 2001 16:38

Hello Brother "Q",

Hope your feeling fine and taking better care of yourself....Remember
don't keep pushing yourself so much and to get some rest and eat good
nutritional food.  "Q" you don't have to thank me for anything I send
you.  I feel it my duty to do all I can to help you.  You have done so
much for us and have brought so much happiness, peace and love into our
lives. You have also brought more pride into our heart and that of our
family and friends as they can go onto the site you have made for us.
They are able to visit and see what we went through and what were all
about.  Many of us are able to talk about things we didn't want to
remember and forced ourselves to forget.  Now we can talk about these
things because we talk about them with our Brothers who know what it was
like and who feel the same way.  We can even laugh at most f it when we
talk about.  We also remember the painful things but that's not bad.
Many time it's good to let things out and get a good cry out of it
(relieves pressure built up inside).  I thank God that Desi came across
such a great friend as you and for sharing your friendship with us.  I
hope that someday your hard work will pay out in a really rich and
famous reward.  But in the meantime I pray that God Blesses you always
and gives you better health and happiness.  Thank you very much
again........Semper Fi, my Brother.........Jose

PS: Thanks for the   www.qpolice.com   site address.  I have several
police personnel that I email and will send it to them.  I visited the
site and many of the site I visited were very informative and helpful
(especially the Pennsylvania State Police).

Hi Q-
I flew back to Fairbanks last night. I have to get
back to work Tuesday morning.  Bob will be up as soon
as he can.  The good part of being back here, is that
I can vote for the website from my computer. Both here
and at work.
I wanted to thank you for all you've done this past
year for Bob and the others of Delta 1/5.  Your hard
work has had profound, life-long and life-changing
effects on the lives of so many men.
You're an incredible and selfless person. I'll pray
for you and your health.  And when I have champagne at
midnight, I'll tip one in honor of you.  May 2001
bring you all the blessings you deserve. Happy New
Year.

My name is A. J. Kent and I served with Delta Co. during the Tet Offensive
and beyond.  I am the subject of the article by William Touhy found on your
website.  I congratulate you on undertaking such an ambitious project.  I am
glad you (someone) has seen fit to recognize D1/5 in this way.
I have a large collection of pictures, slides, articles, related to D1/5.  I
would be honored to share them with you, if you would like them.
I was HM2 with Delta Co. 1968-69
Thank you once again for your hard work and dedication.

Hey Q,

Thanks for the postcard. Just one question. Who are all those old farts? When I was in Delta the guys were all in their teens and early twenties. No one was THAT old. Are you sure these guys aren't World War II vets? Or maybe even WW I?
Seriously though thanks for all the pics you took and the bang up job you are doing. My dear wife came across a pack of slides I thought were lost(she found it on the Marine Corp birthday). It was my last roll of film started in Vietnam when I was at 1st Med Bn. and finished at home. Most aren't that important but one is a pic I took of Ernie, Desi and Curtis White. Curtis and Dez were going home. Desi had his third heart. I still have the letter telling Mom about the picture. If I send it to you can you still get it on the web page? I also have a good shot of a huey slick landing at 1st med. I don't have anyway to transfer it from a slide and I trust you over a photo lab. Just let me know.

Hey Q, D.C. was great. Thanks again for everything you did and for bringing
us together.  I wanted to see Lefty and Curtis more than anything and I did.
It was great   even though I didn't know everone, we were all Delta 1/5.  I'm
especially thankful that Desi made it and that he did so well.  One more
thing, an old friend that lives close to you (Estacada) sent me an e-mail
regarding Clinton's visits to China and Vietnam.  If there's an ounce of
truth to it then we need to get the word out to as many people as we can.
Thank God he's on his way out!

Yo Q!!!
I think the website is turning into something that could be considered
really historic.  This is a real life  depiction of the vietnam war and some
of its participants.  I am really proud to be on it and my hat is off to
you.  I'm looking forward to meeting you.
One comment;  The photo of me posted on the dedicated page has some
incorrect information.  I was 21 years old and married when I was in 'Nam.

Hey Q, You can't know how much you are appreciated. I wish you had been in my
platoon(3rd plt. Delta 1/5 in Dec 68 & Jan. 69) or in my companies B & C(in
69). What you are doing is above and beyond the call of duty. I can tell you,
as someone who spent 10 months in the bush and felt damn lucky to have
survived and raise 3 daughters and two grandchildren, to have the opportunity
to look back thru your web site @ the people I served with and remember after
all these years, is a gift that can not be repaid. For many years I had no
contact whatsoever with any one that was in Viet Nam with me. In fact, I had
almost forgotten most of the names & faces until I stumbled upom your web
site. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you have done.
I could tell you stories that would turn your stomach about people that I
have run across during my travels that have tried to purport themselves as
Viet Nam Vets. It is so great to have a place where the real vets(not rear
area pogues) can get together to remember. Dying Delta was a real thing, with
real people who bled real blood, who cared for one another, and their
country. I suspect that some, if not most bought into JFK's "Ask not what
your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country". I know I
did. Some day I hope to get to meet you. See Ya & Semper Fi ---Frank

Hey   Jarheads , I was just thinking...........This guy "Q"  has been busting
his ass creating  the Delta web site, I dont think he gets any money for his
" labor of Love" , Without him, none of this would be happening, He has
helped a lot of guys that often wondered about old friends, and brought them
together. I dont have all of the DELTA  Marines  emails so if you got any,
send this on to them,.........I`m gonna send Q a few dollars just to help him
out, I know he aint rich , and I know he sometimes has to get part time jobs
to make ends meet, I figure if all of us sent him a few dollars, maybe we
could help him out a little. or at least he could afford to buy a new set of
clothes, he only wears Black, so he probably wears the same clothes for
weeks!!!!!!hehehehe.

Hi "Q",

I have been meaning to write to you for some time but something always has to come up that distracts me from my plans.  I just received a few e-mails and read some messages from special people that I just had to sit down and finally get a message to you.

I have visited your Delta 1/5 site and enjoy it greatly.  I am very grateful for what you are doing for Vietnam Veterans and in particular the members of Delta 1/5.  I was in Vietnam with "K" Co., 3/27 the entire month of August of 1968.  They went "afloat" but I didn't have enough time in-country and was transferred to Delta 1/5.  I was with Delta 1/5 from September of 1968 till the day I was wounded (May 26,1969).  Thanks to your site and a couple other links, I have visited, I have been able to make contact with my fellow brothers from Delta 1/5.  You have brought much happiness and pride, not just to me but my family and I'm sure to many others.  Your Delta 1/5 site is very good and helpful.  It is rejoining many good friends, making new ones and allowing courageous people, who have lost loved ones in Vietnam, to open their hearts and release some of the pain and suffering they have within.

I have to end this message here, But before I do I want you to know that it is with great pride that I am available to assist you in any way I can to help you to maintain such a great site.          Jose E Cruz

As I write this, I can't seem to find the words. Words that explain how proud it is to have someone remeber us. How great it was to see Gertsen's name in this email. It brings back a flood of memories some good, some scare the hell out of me. It seems like only yesterday and yet a million years ago. Saying Thanks! is a poor way of show my gratitude to everyone. I hope that every has a great time in Portland. Don't get to Dinky Dau ! It looks as though we have all made the journey full circle. We still are missing a few but they will be in our hearts and minds forever.

Q, I have seen the changes,!! and I know that it was hard for you to do it,
but I thank you very much for it, because my friend you have created a "WORK

and for a very accurate account of what the Men from Delta 1/5 saw, and
lived. Sir you have created a MASTERPIECE, and for that I thank you.!!!!!

The Meritorious Service Medal is awarded to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who distinguishes themselves by either outstanding achievement or meritorious service to the United States. It was established as a junior award to the Legion of Merit and to replace the Bronze Star for the recognition of meritorious non-combat services.

This decoration was established by Executive Order 11448 on Jan. 16, 1969. The Meritorious Service Medal (pictured below) may be awarded to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who distinguishes themselves by either outstanding achievement or meritorious service to the United States.

This award was established as the counterpart of the Bronze Star Medal for the recognition of meritorious non combat service.

The medal was designed by Jay Morris and sculptured by Lewis J. King, Jr., both of the Army's Institute of Heraldry. It is a one and one-half inch medallion in bronze, on the obverse as eagle wings upraised, standing upon two upward curving branches of laurel tied with a ribbon between the talons of the eagle, above and behind the eagle the upper part of a five-pointed star (with two smaller stars outlined within) on a incised plaque with six points starting at the top of each wing of the eagle. The reverse is plain with a circular inscription in raised letters, "United States of America" and "Meritorious Service" separated by dots.

The ribbon is purplish red with a quarter inch white stripe one-eighth inch from each edge.
